There is an obligation to register antibiotic use in certain animal species in a central database, see among others here.


You can do this registration directly from Fuga, and it works as follows. You can activate the registration by ticking Settings => Practice preferences => Belgium tab => Sanitel-Med. You then fill in your Sanitel-Med username (in the form N1234), password and code (in the form BE12345678) under Settings => My preferences => General.

Next, in the animal record under 'Sanitel-Med category' you will see the following options:

  • Chick
  • Goat
  • Laying hen
  • Unweaned piglets
  • Weaned piglets
  • Sows/boars
  • Fattening pigs
  • Veal calves
  • Adult dairy cattle
  • Adult beef cattle
  • Young bovine (8 to 24 months)
  • Calf (< 8 months)

Per animal (group) you can indicate the primary category and which categories are also present in the herd.


Under the product record you will have 'Code' as an extra field; this is the cti-ext code of the product. A list is available here. You must also fill in the 'Number of outgoing units per Sanitel-Med unit' under the product record. Sanitel-Med uses 'package' as its unit. It probably comes down to 'Number of outgoing units per Sanitel-Med unit' needing the same value as 'Number of outgoing units per product'.


It is also best to check once whether the herd numbers of the clients are filled in. These are needed for Sanitel-Med and must be presented in the format BE12345678 (Fuga does try to get the number right if the 'BE' prefix is missing or if there is an animal-species suffix present).


So how does it work?


Behind the scenes, Fuga keeps a list of outgoing products that must be reported to Sanitel-Med. An outgoing product will be added to this list if the product has a cti-ext code, if the animal has a 'Sanitel-Med category' specified, and if the herd number is specified.


The only thing you need to do at the end of the month (or the quarter) is go to To be submitted to Sanitel-Med and press 'Submit to Sanitel-Med' to register the outgoing products with Sanitel-Med. Note that you should be sure to add a TVD in the corresponding consultation. You can also remove outgoing products from the list.


Via the report Submitted to Sanitel-Med you can also request a list of supplied products you have already registered with Sanitel-Med.


Checklist in Fuga

  • Tick Sanitel-Med under Settings => Practice preferences > Belgium tab
  • Fill in the Sanitel-Med account, password and code under Settings => My preferences > General
  • Fill in the Sanitel-Med categories per animal
  • Fill in the herd numbers in the format BE12345678 at the client location
  • In the product record of antibiotics, set the cti-ext code and 'Number of outgoing units per Sanitel-Med unit'
  • Create a TVD per consultation for which products must be registered
  • Request the report and register


Error messages

  • No T&V document present in consultation - No TVD created in the consultation/sale where the product was used.
  • Sanitary Unit not found for the facility: BE12345678 - The Sanitel-Med category specified for the animal does not match this herd.
  • Parameter 'Dierenarts' is niet gespecificeerd - The veterinarian code/operator number (format: 'BE + 8 digits') is missing, see Settings => My preferences => General => Sanitel-Med code.
  • Parameter 'User name' is not specified - The username and/or password has not been provided, see Settings => My preferences => General => Sanitel-Med username.
  • If you have problems with the 'XML user' flag when registering for Sanitel-Med, you can email sanitelmed@fagg-afmps.be to request that your user profile be adjusted.
